There are no words that can explain the value of that document to America, or to the world. I have read a lot of quotes from our founding fathers and from notable people of several other countries who have praised it extensively and in great detail. I feel in my heart greater love than my words or their words can express….but as I look to the deeds of our founders, the actions of so many who have served this country in uniform, and others that have served in many other ways, I feel they said it best with their service, their sacrifice, and in many cases, their life. That says so more than I, or anyone else ever could. My thought for today is of the stuff, the passion, the heart and soul that went into forming that document, that amazing Guiding Flame for Freedom.
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” –Benjamin Franklin
“Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say ‘what should be the reward of such sacrifices?’ … If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!” –Samuel Adams
